Sphero Newbie

Draw

The Draw canvas allows you to draw a path that Sphero will follow. This is a great way to introduce younger students to "programming" Sphero.

1. Open the SpheroEDU App. Your robot should reconnect.

2. To create a new draw program click on Programs at the bottom of the screen.

3. Click the + sign inside the circle in the bottom right corner to create a new program.

4. Click on Draw and in the Name Your Program type Shapes. Click Create.

5. Using your finger draw a circle on the canvas.

6. Before you run your program you must remember to aim Sphero. Click Aim in the upper right corner to move Sphero's tail light facing you.

7. Click green Start at the top of the screen to watch your Sphero roll in the shape you have drawn.

8. The Sensor Data at the bottom of the screen will show you  the actual path Sphero rolled.

9. Click the Undo button on the bottom left to clear the circle shape and try another one. Let everyone in your group practice drawing a shape.

Extra Challenge: Draw the circle using different colors to change Sphero's color as it rolls.

Classroom Idea!

Have students make a drawing bot and use it to practice drawing shapes, letters, and words.

Think about how you could use the Sphero and the Draw canvas in class?
