Summary:
This could be a culminating activity for students at the end of a unit on area and perimeter. Students will program Pro-Bot to create squares or rectangles with specific areas or perimeters to draw a robot. Students should already be familiar with the basics of programming the Pro-Bot.
Materials:
3 Pro-Bots and 3 Dry Erase Mats for practice or final product
A Make This Robot card for each group (3 in this Google Doc, make a copy of the doc to create your own)
A Program planning worksheet for each student (included in this Google Doc)
Procedure:
1. Explain to students that Pro-Bot uses centimeters as a unit of measure. Each student will design a robot and write code to program Pro-Bot.
2. Split the class into 3 groups or assign as an individual assignment using paper rather than the Dry Erase mats.
3. Each group or student will program Pro-Bot to draw a robot based on the specifications on their Make My Robot card.
4. Admire the other robots and discuss. Would it be possible for robots created using the same Make My Robot card to look different?
