Create a copy of a program written by someone else and edit it. Each group is going to create a program that will introduce their Sphero to the other groups.

1. Open the SpheroEDU app and click Programs on the bottom bar. There are 3 areas of programs:

  • My Programs - the programs you have created.
  • Sphero - programs created by members of the SpheroEDU team
  • Community - programs that have been created and shared by the other public members of the SpheroEDU community

2. Click on the Sphero tab. Notice the icon in the bottom right corner of each program. This icon represents what type the program is: Draw, Blocks, or Text (JavaScript).

3. Scroll to find the program named Meet the Bots. This is a version of the program I ran at the beginning of the workshop. Click on it. Click the Copy button to save it to your Programs.

4. Name it Meet our Bot. Click Save. Click the X to close the Meet The Bots window.

5. Click My Programs at the top of your screen. You should see the new program Meet our Bot. Click to open it. Click the Blocks icon on the bottom right to see the code. Take a close look and talk about the commands you see. Double click on a few of the blocks to see an explanation of what they do.

6. Modify the first Speak action block so that your group's Sphero introduces itself by the name you chose for it.

7. Make at least 2 other modifications to the code to make your Sphero's introduction unique.

Extra Challenge: Add another section that introduces a new "thing" Sphero can do.

Classroom idea!

Can you think of other ways to use Sphero's talents in class?
