Science Resources - Secondary Level (RFA)

Aligned with the new Science Standards, offers concrete suggestions for integrating a variety of resources into the science curriculum.

Scientific Research

"The idea of a primary source is that it is a firsthand source of information; in the sciences, that means that primary sources are reports by scientists concerning research they have done, containing the data they have gathered, the hypotheses they have formed, experiments and/or observations, and conclusions. Typically these reports take the form of studies published in a scientific journal."  Analyzing Primary Sources, from Today's Science.

NY Science Standards Connections

The new NY State Science Standards include analysis of scientific claims and arguments, such as those found in scientific research reports:

  • RST.11-12.1 Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of science and technical texts, attending to important distinctions the author makes and to any gaps or inconsistencies in the account.
