Description of Services offered by the Historian

The Madison County Historian has:

  • worked with individual teachers/classes on projects such as:
    • Understanding local historical maps
    • Understanding the role of a historian
    • Understanding how local geography impacts the area
    • Supplying reenactors to talk about historical events
    • Providing a walking tour for students to better understand communities
  •  spoken at multiple Social Studies and teacher conferences about utilizing primary sources and where primary sources can be found locally
  • worked with Madison-Oneida BOCES on Teaching with Primary Sources project which was awarded a 2014 NYS Archives Excellence in the use of Government Records Award

The Madison County Historian’s office has:

  • hosted student and teacher government classes giving tours of the Madison County Archives, explaining the county’s records management process, and showing students how to utilize government records
  • hosted multiple high school and college interns over the years creating projects that work with the student’s capabilities and interests
